VASYL STEFANYK’S SHORT STORY «THE BABY WATCHER» AS TRANSLATED INTO GERMAN: A LINGUISTIC AND PRAGMATIC FACET

چکیده
Aim. This paper examines the translation of Vasyl Stefanyk’s short story «The Baby Watcher» (1921) into German. The purpose is to analyse target text sentences’ syntactic structure in remit considering equivalent and adequate rendering meaning original. Methods. In furtherance this purpose, we resorted descriptive method (we identified units analysis each individual sentence or its part under consideration), contrastive compared communicative pragmatic correspondence semantically original) intent determined intention speaker free direct indirect discourses). Results. Proceeding from lexical stylistic features done by Alla Paslavska Tobias Vogel, argue that it renders content original with appropriate / similar means, except when stylistically neutral language lexemes are dialectally marked vocabulary source language. Originality. first attempt for a Watcher», focusing on texts being compared. Practical significance. findings study will serve those involved synchronic-comparative systems, Ukrainian writer’s signature world-view purposes producing fiction translation, as well at decision linguistic pragmatics applied tasks.
